The right two lanes of eastbound Interstate 580 were closed Monday afternoon, backing up rush-hour traffic in Livermore from the North Flynn Road exit near Altamont Pass. Caltrans reported that the lane closure had been caused by a crack in the road. Caltrans announced on Twitter at 2:42 p.m. that while progress was being made, repairs would not be fixed in time for the Monday evening rush-hour commute. According to CBS Bay Area, the crack was likely due to a small landslide, which also knocked down part of the highway shoulder.
